For over ten years, you have been publishing, exploring, and using open data with our tools. To support these uses, we have made available two portals powered by Opendatasoft:
- data.opendatasoft.com, showcasing public data published by Opendatasoft platform clients,
- public.opendatasoft.com, where we republish complementary open data, maintained by Opendatasoft.
These spaces have made it possible to expose a wide diversity of datasets, build enriched use cases, and inspire the community. Today, we are evolving this offering to make it clearer, more sustainable, and more useful for all members of our ecosystem.
Clarifying the offer, strengthening the impact
We want to focus our efforts on what is truly useful to you: well-selected, carefully maintained datasets, accessible within a clear framework. To achieve this, we will evolve our system:
-
Closure of data.opendatasoft.com:
This portal will no longer be accessible as a public showcase. All existing access will remain functional: datasets will remain accessible via their URLs or via the API, without service interruption.
-
Complete redesign of public.opendatasoft.com, which will become our ecosystem marketplace:
This portal will offer a more focused and better showcased selection of useful datasets, which can be directly consumed from your portals thanks to federation and join features.
A clear roadmap by the end of 2025
Here are the main upcoming milestones:
- September 2025:
- Closure of the data.opendatasoft.com portal
- Maintenance of all existing API access to avoid any regression
- By the end of 2025:
- Progressive removal of datasets with little or no usage on public.opendatasoft.com
- Closure of anonymous access to the majority of datasets on public.opendatasoft.com
- Consequently, the majority of datasets from public.opendatasoft.com will no longer be accessible from data.opendatasoft.com
- Official launch of the new Opendatasoft ecosystem marketplace with renewed name, interface, and governance
- Datasets from Opendatasoft marketplace will be accessible via client portals thanks to federation and join features
- Public datasets will also remain accessible via client portals thanks to federation and join features
A marketplace open to an entire ecosystem
Our ambition doesn't stop there. This marketplace will become a data distribution channel open to a broad ecosystem:
- It will continue to offer useful reference data, selected and maintained by our teams,
- It will eventually allow third parties (partners, institutions, data producers) to contribute directly to the platform,
- It will facilitate the discovery, integration, and reuse of data, whether public or under access conditions.
You will thus be able to:
- more easily enrich your portals,
- create complex use cases without sourcing effort,
- access ready-to-use shared resources,
- and benefit from an AI & API-first experience, designed for direct and rapid consumption.
What you can do right now
If you are currently using datasets hosted on data.opendatasoft.com or public.opendatasoft.com, no urgent action is required:
- Your existing integrations will continue to work,
- You will be notified of any potential changes,
- And you can contact us today to anticipate certain critical needs.
Together towards a new stage
This evolution marks a new stage in our commitment alongside you: offering a clearer, more reliable, and more open data experience.
We firmly believe that this strategy will enable everyone — clients, partners, data producers — to better showcase their data and create more impact.
Your opinion matters greatly: you can react directly in the comments under this article to ask your questions, express your needs, or share your ideas.
We look forward to discussing this with you.
