The big picture

For over a decade, Opendatasoft has been helping major public and private organizations across the globe to democratize their data.

Opendatasoft allows you to share your data online—with who you want, in the format they need, and without needing to be an expert to free your data and get things done.

But while anyone with a file can share data, Opendatasoft allows you to create a data ecosystem:

  • Connect your Opendatasoft data portal to your various business apps and storage resources
  • Improve the quality of your data with our processors, and enrich it with third-party data or resources maintained by Opendatasoft
  • Make your data searchable and more user-friendly, with defined levels of access by group, by user, or even by individual dataset
  • Collaborate on your data, share it and increase its use, and even create value around your data

In more detail

Opendatasoft provides you with one or more online data portals. These are where you find your datasets, Opendatasoft's most basic unit.

A dataset can contain and store data like a giant spreadsheet, but the power of a dataset is that it can draw on different kinds of data from many different sources, and does much more than just hold or display data.

A dataset is where your data can be improved and enriched with data processors, be described using detailed metadata, be displayed using customized visualizations, be tracked using our data lineage feature, and other actions.

Finally, it's worth adding here that if you're able or need it, Opendatasoft provides several powerful and well-documented APIs to allow you to interact directly with the Opendatasoft platform.

In summary

Opendatasoft is an all-in-one platform that empowers your whole team—whatever their technical ability—to accelerate your data's use and increase its value. More than just a place for your data, Opendatasoft allows you to create a powerful data portal and democratize your data.
